Open this focused practice →An acute angle measures more than 0 degrees and less than 90 degrees. A right angle is exactly 90 degrees. An obtuse angle is greater than 90 degrees and less than 180 degrees, while a straight angle is exactly 180 degrees.
Rotating a picture does not change any of those facts. Compare the opening with a square corner, then use an exact measure when the question supplies one.
Ray BA begins at B and passes through A. If rays BA and BC form one angle, B is the vertex and must be the middle letter of a three-letter angle name: angle ABC or angle CBA.
In a figure with several rays, a one-letter name such as angle B is ambiguous. List every pair of rays to find both small sectors and larger composite angles. Three rays make three pairs; four rays make six.
Adjacent angles share a vertex and one ray without overlapping. Complementary angles total 90 degrees. A linear pair is adjacent with opposite exterior rays, so its measures total 180 degrees. Vertical angles sit opposite each other where two lines cross.
Check each definition separately. Two opposite 45-degree angles are vertical because of their position and complementary because their measures add to 90 degrees.
A drawn segment or ray can show the direction of a full supporting line. Parallel supporting lines remain distinct and never meet. Perpendicular supporting lines meet at exactly 90 degrees. Other crossings are intersecting, not perpendicular.
The worksheet directions state this convention explicitly. It prevents a pair of short pieces from being called parallel only because their visible portions stop before an intersection.
