Ready to print

Start with a ready-made worksheet

Use the given points to identify letters and write ordered pairs. Then plot the six new labeled points on the same grid. Start every position from the origin.

Download the practice pages alone, or include a separate answer key or teacher model. Longer activities may use more than one page.

Keep the graph and the questions together

The student edition includes the graph and its questions or coordinate sequences. The answer edition adds completed work, including the points or paths the learner must draw.

The same settings and seed reproduce the same task. Use New problems to make another set, then check the preview before downloading.

Learning objective

What this activity builds

Connect a point, its label and its ordered pair, using the horizontal coordinate before the vertical coordinate.

Worked example

Where does the point (3, 7) belong?

Three units right and seven units up from (0, 0).

The first coordinate measures horizontal position and the second measures vertical position. The point (7, 3) uses the same numbers but occupies a different location.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Trace the horizontal distance before the vertical distance.
  • Include points with a zero coordinate to show that an axis is a possible location.
  • Ask the learner to read the coordinates of a point they just plotted.
  • Use the same seed to revisit an exercise, or choose New problems for a different set.
