Start with a ready-made worksheet

Construct the requested circle. For a diameter, construct its midpoint before drawing the circle.

Transfer the radius

Keep the compass opening fixed while moving it from the supplied radius segment to the given center.

Learning objective

What this activity builds

Transfer a radius with a compass and construct the center of a circle from its diameter.

Worked example

A segment AB is the diameter of a circle. Where should the compass point go?

At the constructed midpoint of AB.

The midpoint is the center; the distance from it to either endpoint is the radius.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Transfer the given radius without measuring it.
  • For a diameter, construct the center first.
  • Check that both diameter endpoints lie on the completed circle.

Four tasks alternate transferred-radius circles and diameter circles that require midpoint construction. Native variants are fixed to provide complete teaching coverage; the source form exposes no task-specific controls.
