Ready to print

Start with a ready-made worksheet

Draw each named angle above the baseline from the stated starting ray. Mark the requested degree, draw the new ray through it, and label its endpoint.

Draw above the named starting ray

Each prompt gives one of eight target degree measures and explicitly names the left or right starting ray. Align 0 degrees with that ray, mark the requested turn above the baseline, and draw the new named ray through the mark.

The student page leaves the new ray absent for construction. The separate answer key repeats the baseline and prompt, then adds the correct ray and its endpoint label.

Learning objective

What this activity builds

Use a protractor to mark a requested turn from an explicitly named horizontal starting ray, then draw and label the new ray above the baseline.

Worked example

Draw angle ABC = 146 degrees from ray BA.

Align 0 degrees with ray BA, mark 146 degrees above the baseline, then draw ray BC through the mark.

Ray BA is the fixed starting side because the prompt states it directly. C labels the new ray endpoint; the unused baseline endpoint is not part of angle ABC.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Read the stated starting ray before placing the protractor.
  • Make a small degree mark first, then use a ruler to draw the new ray through it.
  • Check whether the requested angle should look acute, right or obtuse before drawing.
  • Label only after the ray is complete so the endpoint letter stays clear of the stroke.
