Linear functions practice

Finding slope from graphs worksheets

Read eight graphed lines and find each exact slope. Use the coordinate scale to compare rise and run, then check a separate answer key with worked calculations.

Ready to print

Start with a ready-made worksheet

Choose two grid points on each line. Calculate the vertical change divided by the horizontal change, keeping the same point order.

Download the practice pages alone, or include a separate answer key or teacher model. Longer activities may use more than one page.

Connect the calculation with the graph

Work with exact slopes and intercepts. Coordinate graphs use unit intervals from −5 to 5 on both axes, and the worked key connects the given information to the requested values, equation or completed graph.

Choose a focused mode when options are available. The settings change what the learner is given and what they must produce; the student preview and downloadable PDF use the same questions.

Learning objective

What this activity builds

Calculate an exact rate of change from two readable points on a line.

Worked example

A line passes through (−2, −1) and (2, 1). What is its slope?

m = (1 − (−1)) ÷ (2 − (−2)) = 2/4 = 1/2.

Moving four units right raises the line by two units. The slope is positive because the line rises from left to right.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Choose points where the line crosses grid intersections.
  • Read the axis labels before counting squares.
  • Draw a small rise-and-run triangle on a spare graph.
  • Use the same direction when subtracting both coordinates.

Make it yours

Customize the practice

Every coordinate grid uses the fixed −5 to 5 unit window. Graph-only modes omit computed response fields; answer editions complete every requested line or solution region.
