The decimal positions are tenths, hundredths and thousandths. The zero hundredths holds the gap between six tenths and eight thousandths.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Align decimal separators in a scratch place-value chart before composing the numeral.
  • Preserve the selected decimal places in the written answer. For example, 24.50 records hundredths even though it has the same value as 24.5.
  • The answer key retains every digit position; explain equivalent numerical answers separately from the practice of recording precision.
  • Each generated question is unique within the sheet. The answer key repeats the prompts with completed responses; page breaks match the student version.
