Start with a ready-made worksheet

Determine the truth of each fact, then evaluate the compound proposition. The key records the atomic values and final answer.

Separate facts from the rule that combines them

Each question starts with numerical facts that have definite truth values. Easy forms combine two propositions; medium forms negate a whole compound; hard forms group two operators over three propositions.

Choose words, symbols or a mixture. The grouping remains explicit, and the answer key shows the atomic truth values as well as the final result.

A narrow selection can repeat the available expression forms. Use New problems to make another reproducible set, or return to the same settings link when you need the same questions.

Learning objective

What this activity builds

Find each atomic truth value and combine those values according to the exact grouping of a statement.

Worked example

Is NOT (“12 is even” AND “5 is greater than 9”) true?

True.

The two facts are T and F. Their conjunction is F. NOT reverses that compound result to T.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Separate checking the facts from applying the connective.
  • Choose one sentence form before mixing difficulty levels.
  • Read verbal and symbolic versions aloud with the same grouping.
  • For hard questions, evaluate the parenthesized part first.
