Ready to print

Start with a ready-made worksheet

Rewrite a standard-form equation with y alone, if needed. Identify the coefficient of x as the slope and the constant as the y-intercept.

Download the practice pages alone, or include a separate answer key or teacher model. Longer activities may use more than one page.

Connect the calculation with the graph

Work with exact slopes and intercepts. Coordinate graphs use unit intervals from −5 to 5 on both axes, and the worked key connects the given information to the requested values, equation or completed graph.

Choose a focused mode when options are available. The settings change what the learner is given and what they must produce; the student preview and downloadable PDF use the same questions.

Learning objective

What this activity builds

Read line properties from an equation after isolating y when necessary.

Worked example

Find the slope and y-intercept of 3x + 2y = 8.

y = −(3/2)x + 4, so m = −3/2 and b = 4.

Subtract 3x from both sides, then divide every term by 2. The y-intercept is the point (0, 4), not the coefficient 2 from the original equation.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Begin with slope-intercept form before mixing equation forms.
  • Divide every term when isolating y.
  • Distinguish the intercept value b from the point (0, b).
  • Substitute x = 0 to check the y-intercept.

Every coordinate grid uses the fixed −5 to 5 unit window. Graph-only modes omit computed response fields; answer editions complete every requested line or solution region.
