Learning objective

What this activity builds

Connect a number’s ones digit with its nearest-ten rounding direction.

Worked example

Which ten is nearer to 68?

70

68 is two away from 70 and eight away from 60. Its ones digit is 8, so the upward group leads to 70.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Use the written labels and arrows as well as the colors, so the reference still works without color recognition.
  • The 11 cells in each row include both tens. Repeated endpoints are intentional and make the two rounding choices visible.
  • Exact tens stay unchanged. This fixed study aid has no score denominator, and its optional teaching model repeats the same completed chart.
