Learning objective

What this activity builds

Locate the two neighboring tens and decide which is nearer, rounding halfway values upward.

Worked example

What does 35 round to?

40

35 is halfway between 30 and 40. The halfway convention rounds upward, so it goes to 40. By contrast, 34 is closer to 30.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Each row deliberately repeats the tens shown at the ends of neighboring rows: 0–10, 10–20, and so on.
  • The heavy divider separates ones digits 4 and 5. Exact tens are fixed points, including 0 and 100.
  • This is a fixed reference aid, not a scored question sheet. The optional teaching-model page repeats the chart; changing the seed does not change it.
