Start with a ready-made worksheet

Use the labels or legend to read each share. Each chart totals 100%; if one share is missing, subtract the other five shares from 100%.

Download the practice pages alone, or include a separate answer key or teacher model. Longer activities may use more than one page.

Read the scale before starting

Read the axis or symbol key before answering. Hard drawing tasks state a conversion between table and axis units. A stack of X marks or pictures is a quantity only after applying its printed key.

The static image shows the first student page. Each download includes every student page; the answer version adds the complete separate key. Some activities use multiple pages to keep charts, labels and response spaces readable.

Learning objective

What this activity builds

Read parts of a whole and use percentage relationships to compare or combine categories.

Worked example

The five visible shares total 83%. What is the missing share?

17%.

The complete distribution is 100%, so the remaining share is 100 − 83.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Each worksheet contains two independent charts and ten questions in total; the complete download may use multiple pages.
  • Easy includes reading shares, extrema, a two-share sum and a pair totaling 50%. Include all valid pairs if more than one works.
  • Hard includes a count from a given whole, largest pairs and group comparisons. Compare stated percentages rather than estimating areas by eye.
  • Missing-label mode hides one share on each student chart and restores it on the key.
