Sort before calculating. For odd-length datasets, exclude the overall median from both halves; find each half’s median for Q1 and Q3. Average middle pairs exactly. Whiskers reach the observed minimum and maximum, with no separate outlier rule.

No. Use exactly the nine observations in the story.
Axis intervals provide a scale for drawing; they are not additional data points.
Teaching notes
Make the practice count
- There are two stories, each with its own raw dataset, summary blanks and drawing axis.
- Choose lengths from 9–13 and one of the stated inclusive ranges. Dataset order affects reading, not the summary.
- Use the same quartile convention as the summary worksheets: exclude the overall median from the halves when the dataset length is odd.
- Keep the context unit when explaining the result. Whiskers end at observed extrema, without an additional outlier rule.
