Ready to print

Start with a ready-made worksheet

Select a design and print every student page. Connect each path in its listed order, lift the pencil before the next path, and follow any additional dot or radius instructions. The answer page shows the completed picture.

Download the practice pages alone, or include a separate answer key or teacher model. Longer activities may use more than one page.

Print the whole coordinate task

A picture worksheet includes every coordinate-list page followed by a blank graph. The separate answer edition adds the completed drawing. Longer designs need more pages; do not discard a continued path or the final graph.

Each design has fixed geometry. Choose another picture for a different task; paper size, language and page notes change its presentation.

Learning objective

What this activity builds

Apply accurate signed-coordinate plotting to a detailed multipart drawing and check it against a completed geometric model.

Worked example

A circle has center (−3, 2) and radius 0.5. How is it different from a dot?

The circle surrounds the center at a distance of half a grid unit; a dot marks only the center.

Its left and right extremes are x = −3.5 and x = −2.5, while its top and bottom are y = 2.5 and y = 1.5. Keep the radius the same in every direction.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Choose a design with a shorter coordinate list before attempting a dense picture.
  • Divide longer pictures into several sessions by completed path numbers.
  • Check the sign of each coordinate before connecting the next segment.
  • Distinguish a half-unit radius from a half-unit diameter when drawing circular details.
