Apply inverse operations accurately when an equation contains decimal values.
Worked example
Solve x ÷ 0.4 = 3.5.
x = 1.4.
Multiply both sides by 0.4: x = 3.5 × 0.4 = 1.4. Substituting gives 1.4 ÷ 0.4 = 3.5, so the original equation is true.
