Additional printable profile

Skip counting with starting bands

Use the expanded twelve-row profile with eight terms per row. Select a starting band and steps from 2 through 12, with three clues in each row.

The downloads above keep the original ten-row edition. These separate files use twelve rows with three clues in each row.

  • The starting band limits only the first term. High starting bands and larger steps can produce terms above 99.
  • Every selected step appears, with use balanced across the twelve rows; row order is shuffled. Leaving the selection empty uses step two.
  • Begin with the first three clues and a small step. Scattered clues require backward as well as forward counting; account for the number of gaps between known terms.

Your original worksheet stays open. The new worksheet opens in another tab and starts with fresh row settings.

Learning objective

What this activity builds

Continue a sequence by repeatedly adding the selected step.

Worked example

Count by 3s: 3, 6, 9, __, __.

12, 15

Add 3 to each term: 9 + 3 = 12 and 12 + 3 = 15.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Clap or move one counter for each equal jump.
  • Use always-last blanks before mixed blanks so the rule is visible.
