Set the hour and minutes for the large clock, then use it during a teacher-led explanation. Name each hand and connect its position to the printed digital time. Treat the page as a discussion aid rather than a scored exercise.
Download the practice pages alone, or include a separate answer key or teacher model. Longer activities may use more than one page.
Customize this worksheetLearning objective
Explain how the two hands work together to show an hour and the minutes that have passed within it.
Worked example
The three five-minute intervals from 12 to 3 total 15 minutes.
Count the minute positions clockwise from the top: 5 at 1, 10 at 2 and 15 at 3. These are minute amounts, not a change to the hour numeral. At 4:15, the hour hand has also moved a quarter of the way from 4 toward 5.
