Ready to print

Start with a ready-made worksheet

Draw a table for each expression. Include input columns, useful intermediate columns and a final result column.

Download the practice pages alone, or include a separate answer key or teacher model. Longer activities may use more than one page.

Let the learner build the structure

The student page deliberately provides an expression and open space. Drawing the columns and listing every input case are part of this exercise.

The key provides complete tables. If planning the grid gets in the way of learning a new operator, begin with Complete truth tables and return here afterward.

A narrow selection can repeat the available expression forms. Use New problems to make another reproducible set, or return to the same settings link when you need the same questions.

Learning objective

What this activity builds

Construct the organization of a truth table independently, including the required inputs and intermediate results.

Worked example

How many input rows are needed for two propositions?

Four: TT, TF, FT and FF.

Each of the two propositions has two possible values, so there are 2 × 2 assignments. List each one exactly once.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Write column headings before drawing the grid.
  • Allow a column for each negated atom.
  • Use the open space to explain one difficult row.
  • Compare the final column even if the learner chose a different valid row order.
