Learning objective

What this activity builds

Locate two-digit numbers accurately and follow a multicolor number key.

Worked example

The blue list includes 23. Which cell should be blue?

The cell in row 3, column 3.

Rows begin with 1, 11 and 21. Starting at 21, move two columns right to reach 23. Color only the cells named in each list.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Read the color name and a few listed numbers together before independent work.
  • The answer key shows the finished picture; the student chart includes only numbers and color lists. Each colored cell earns one point if you choose to score it.
  • The flag is a small stylized motif, not a scale drawing. Pictures are fixed original artwork, so changing the seed keeps the selected picture unchanged.
