Keep feet, inches and fractional inches in their own positions. Use a common fraction denominator, exchange one foot for twelve inches or one inch for fractional parts when needed, then normalize the final measurement.
Download the practice pages alone, or include a separate answer key or teacher model. Longer activities may use more than one page.
Customize this worksheetLearning objective
Coordinate twelve inches per foot with denominator-sized fractional parts per inch during measurement arithmetic.
Worked example
2 feet 6 1/2 inches.
Exchange a foot: 5 feet 2 1/4 inches becomes 4 feet 14 1/4 inches. Exchange one inch to get 4 feet 13 5/4 inches. Subtracting 2 feet 7 3/4 inches leaves 2 feet 6 2/4 inches, or 2 feet 6 1/2 inches.
