What this activity builds
Interpret division by a fraction as counting groups of a given fractional size.
Worked example
A ribbon is 6 metres long. Each decoration needs 3/4 metre. How many decorations can be made?
6 ÷ 3/4 = 6 × 4/3 = 8 decorations.
Each metre contains four quarter-metres. Six metres contain 24 quarters, and each decoration uses three.
