Keep the question and answer together

Ready-made PDFs are in English and include Letter and A4 versions. The file with answers adds a separate key with the same question positions. The preview shows the first page; downloads include every page.

Use the generator to change the rounding place, question count or worksheet language. A long teacher note or translated instructions may add a page.

Learning objective

What this activity builds

Estimate an amount at a chosen whole-unit precision and explain how the rounding unit affects the result.

Worked example

Round $99.66 to the nearest one unit, then to the nearest ten units.

$100.00 in both cases

99.66 is nearer to 100 than to 99, and nearer to 100 than to 90. Different rounding units sometimes produce the same result, but use different pairs of neighbors.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Nearest-one practice uses two-digit amounts in the first group and three-digit amounts in the second. Nearest-ten practice moves to three and four digits.
  • Changing the currency symbol preserves every amount and answer. This is useful when comparing the same arithmetic with familiar notation.
  • All four symbol choices retain two decimal places, including yen. This exercise practices decimal rounding; it does not model local cash-payment denominations.
  • Ask which precision is useful for an estimate before calculating. An estimate to ten units answers a different question from an estimate to one unit.
