Learning objective

What this activity builds

Continue counting through 100 and recognize that the same row and column patterns extend to 120.

Worked example

What comes after 109, and what is directly below 99?

110 comes after 109; 109 is below 99.

Moving right adds one. Moving down adds ten. The transition beyond 100 changes the hundreds digit but preserves both grid rules.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Read 98, 99, 100, 101 and 102 aloud before asking learners to complete the transition.
  • Use the last two rows to compare 101–110 with 111–120.
  • At 100% blanks, the printed 1–120 range gives the starting point. With no blanks, the worksheet and optional completed model are study aids with no points.
