Ready to print

Start with a ready-made worksheet

Read the table and scale. Draw one bar for each category, beginning at the baseline and ending at the correct value.

Download the practice pages alone, or include a separate answer key or teacher model. Longer activities may use more than one page.

Read the scale before starting

Read the axis or symbol key before answering. Hard drawing tasks state a conversion between table and axis units. A stack of X marks or pictures is a quantity only after applying its printed key.

The static image shows the first student page. Each download includes every student page; the answer version adds the complete separate key. Some activities use multiple pages to keep charts, labels and response spaces readable.

Learning objective

What this activity builds

Draw consistent bars whose heights represent the table accurately.

Worked example

A table gives 60 centimetres but the axis uses metres. What height represents the value?

0.6 metres.

One metre is 100 centimetres. Convert the value before using the axis; do not treat the two unit labels as interchangeable.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Use equal bar widths and keep the category positions consistent.
  • Easy uses five categories with matching units. Hard uses seven categories and clearly states the conversion.
  • Check every bar against the table before comparing the overall pattern. The answer key fills the same labeled grid.
