Read the multiplication and explain it with groups, an array or a known fact before naming the product.

13 cards on 4 pages in the default deck. The image shows its first page. Adding the reference set produces 8 PDF pages in total.

Ten or thirteen cards cover the selected factor with partners through 9 or 12, including zero.

The ready-made image shows page 1; each PDF contains the full deck. Cards with references adds a separate complete set with answers or annotations. These are not mirrored duplex backs and make no front/back alignment promise. Print at actual size and cut along the optional guides.

What changes the deck?

Fixed decks keep every card when density changes. Ordered fixed decks ignore the seed; choose Shuffled to use the seed for a different order. Time, number and money-amount decks generate a count from pages × density and can contain repeats.

Learning objective

What this activity builds

Connect repeated equal groups with multiplication facts.

Worked example

How does an array show 3 × 4?

Three rows of four make 12.

Count four objects in each of three equal rows. There are twelve objects altogether.

Teaching notes

Make the practice count

  • Select a familiar fixed factor before mixing the deck. All partners from 0 through the chosen endpoint appear.
  • Discuss the zero card as zero equal groups or a group size of zero, rather than omitting it.
  • Use an array when a fact is uncertain, then return to the card without the model.
