Divide through the hundredths place. In remainder practice, write the amount left in the original dividend’s units. This stopping rule records an exact quotient-and-remainder relationship; it does not round the answer.

Customize this worksheetLearning objective
Keep the dividend’s units attached to both a decimal quotient and any amount left after dividing through hundredths.
Worked example
0.72 remainder 0.05.
Think of 4.37 as 437 hundredths. Since 437 = 6 × 72 + 5, each share has 72 hundredths and 5 hundredths remain. Check in the original units: 6 × 0.72 + 0.05 = 4.37.
